Parents of Current Students - Please let us know your plans for next year
Please complete the Returning Student Form to let us know whether you plan to re-enroll next year. Note: This PDF form can be filled in electronically; click just above the line to be filled in and type in your information. Request a form in the school office if you are unable to download one. This information helps us plan for next year's classes and know how many spaces are available for new students. Please turn in the form ASAP (no later than Monday, March 15, 2010) to the school office or by e-mail to Vickie Jares at v.jares@fgcschool.org. Current students do not have to submit new enrollment forms, but will be required to complete registration forms prior to the start of the new school year.
New Student Application/Enrollment Process
Forest Grove Community School, like all public charter schools, is a school of choice intended to offer a unique educational program. In order to ensure that you and your student fully understand Forest Grove Community School's philosphy, program and expectations, the following process must be completed before your child is considered fully enrolled and can begin attending school. If your child is accepted for admission but you and your child have failed to complete the following process, your child's space will be given to the next student on the waiting list.
1. Submit an Enrollment Form (Spanish language version: Matricula)for 2010-2011. Please note: The enrollment form can be filled in electronically; click just above the line to be filled in and type in your information. However, enrollment forms must be submitted to FGCS by mail or in person; we cannot accept enrollment forms by email attachment or fax.
2. Attend an Enrollment meeting to be scheduled during the summer.
3. Schedule a school tour to get a sense for how we are different from the other school options. To schedule a tour, please call Vickie Jares at (503) 359-4600.
Who May Enroll - Eligible Students
Our enrollment policy, dictated by state law, gives first priority to students residing within the Forest Grove School District. Students residing outside the District may apply for enrollment and be admitted if spaces are available after all interested District applicants have enrolled.
Lottery
If there are more applicants than spaces available, state law requires that admission be determined by lottery. State law allows FGCS to give priority for admission to siblings of currently enrolled students and to the children of founders, staff, and board members.
Parents may submit enrollment applications during the open enrolllment period from January 15 to April 1, 2010. They may schedule school visits afer January 15th. Information sessions with the principal will also be scheduled. Students who submit enrollment forms during this time make up the lottery "pool." The lottery will take place April 15, 2010 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.; the lottery is open to the public but parents and students are not required to attend. Students will be notified by April 30, 2010 whether they have a space in FGCS or they have been placed on a waiting list. Students applying after April 1 may be admitted on a space available basis but will not be part of the initial lottery.
Waiting List
Two waiting lists will be established for those who do not receive a place during lottery: one for in-district students and one for out-of-district students. Position on the waiting list is determined during the initial lottery process for applications received before the application deadline. Spaces will be offered to all students on the in-district waiting list before spaces are offered to students on the out-of-district waiting list.
Waiting lists will be maintained until the end of the current school year; they will not carry over from year to year. Students who apply for enrolllment after the April 1 deadline will be placed on the list based upon date of application. Applicants will be notified of their position on the waiting list and spaces will be filled in numerical order from the list.
Non-Discrimination Policy
No student, employee, or applicant for employment at FGCS shall, on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, or disability, be excluded from particpation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any employment or educational program or activity.
