Elected to Serve

     The Board of Directors develops policy, oversees the school administration, and approves the budget. The Bylaws contains a complete list of their duties. Directors are elected by the other board members to two-year terms, with no limit on how many terms a board member may serve. The board seeks candidates who can provide experience and expertise in educational oversight, facilities management, finances, accounting, fundraising, community relations, outreach and marketing.

Meetings

The board meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in The Treehouse on the top floor.  Note: The April 2012 meeting of the Board will take place at 5 p.m, rather than 7 p.m., on April 10, 2012.  With public notice, Board meetings may occasionally be rescheduled if a quorum of Board members cannot be present. for inclement weather or for other reasons.  Meetings are open to the public.  Parents, students and other community members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Time is provided at the start of each meeting for public comment.

Charter School Annual Survey

FGCS parents/guardians and students are invited to participate in the annual charter school survey by the Oregon Department of Education. All public charter schools statewide are required to conduct surveys of parents, students and staff. The parent survey is available here.

 

School Dance for Levels 3 & 4

Students in 5th-8th grades are invited to a student-organized school dance 5:00-7 p.m. Fri., May 18 in the Grove Room at the District Office, 1728 Main Street. Tickets are $1. Parents and staff members will chaperone. Snacks and beverages will be served. Questions? Contact Karen Torry at k.torry@fgcschool.org or Abigail and Tara in Charlie's class.

 

Learning Lab Open for Eligible Level 2 Students

The Learning Lab, the after-school study club at FGCS, is now open to Level 2 students with principal approval. The Learning Lab is a quiet, supervised place for students to complete assignments, work on projects or use the computer lab for school work. The Learning Lab, supervised by instructional assistant Rick Boudreau, is open 3:30-4:30 p.m. Mon., Tues., Thurs. and Fri. The Lab is closed on Wednesdays. Students attending Learning Lab must be able to self-manage (focus on work, not disrupt others) for up to an hour. If you'd like your student to attend Learning Lab, please review the Rights, Responsibilities and Rules for Learning Lab and fill out a permission form.  Please place permission forms in the clear box outside the principal's office. You will be notified by phone or email whether your student has may begin attending Learning Lab.
