Enrollment Process and Policy

2008-2009 School Year

Application/Enrollment Process:

Forest Grove Community School, like all public charter schools, is a school of choice intended to offer a unique educational program. In order to ensure that you and your student fully understand Forest Grove Community School's philosophy, program and expectations, the following process must be completed before your child is considered fully enrolled and can begin attending school. If your child is accepted for admittance but you and your child have failed to complete the following process, your child's space will be given to the next student on the waiting list.

  1. Submit an enrollment form for 2008/2009.
The form is available here in English or Spanish.
  2. Attend an Enrollment meeting, to be scheduled during the summer.
  3. We also recommend that you and your student visit the school while we're in session so you can get a sense for how we are different from other school options. To schedule a visit, please call the school office at 503-359-4600

Eligible Students

Forest Grove Community School's enrollment policy gives applicants from within the Forest Grove School District first opportunity to enroll in available spaces at the school. However, Oregon's charter school law allows students to apply to the school from outside of the school district. If there are spaces available, these students may enroll.

Lottery

If there are more applicants than spaces available, state law requires that admission be determined by lottery. Priority is given to siblings of currently enrolled students and to the children of founders, staff, and board members.

The admissions process will begin January 15th with enrollment forms available, information sessions, and Observation Days scheduled. Applications will be taken from January 15th until April 1st. This group of applicants will make up the lottery pool. The lottery will take place April 15th 2008 from 6:30-8:00 and students will be notified of their status by April 30th 2008.

Waiting List

Students applying after April 1st will be admitted on a space available basis. Two waiting lists will be established for those not selected: one for in-district students and one for out-of-district students. Position on the waiting list will be determined during the initial lottery process for applications received before the application deadline. The in-district waitlist will be depleted before the out-of-district list is used.

Waiting lists will be maintained until the end of the current school year; they will not carry over from year to year. Applicants submitting after the deadline will be placed on the list based upon date of application. Applicants will be notified of their position on the waiting list and spaces will be filled in numerical order from the list."
