When to Keep Your Child Home from School

If your child isn't feeling well, it can be hard to know whether to send them to school or keep them home. While we want kids to be in school as much as possible, it's important for them to stay home when they are ill - for their own sake as well as to avoid infecting others. Click here to read guidelines for when to keep your child at home because of illness.

Background Checks Now Required for All FGCS Volunteers

Under a new school district policy, criminal background checks will be required for all volunteers starting with the 2014-15 school year. This includes, but is not limited to, classroom volunteers and Out & About chaperones.

We encourage all current and prospective volunteers to go to the link below as soon as possible to fill out the criminal background verification form online. There is no cost to the volunteer, and all information provided will remain confidential. Starting Oct. 1, 2014, individuals will not be allowed to volunteer until their background check has been approved. The conviction of a crime will not automatically disqualify a person from volunteering in a school. Each situation will be considered individually.

We appreciate all of our dedicated volunteers in the Forest Grove School District. If you have any questions about this new requirement, please contact director of school operations Karen Torry at or 503-359-4600.  Please click here to sign up to be a volunteer and submit a background check:

Note: Be sure to choose Forest Grove Community School from the list of schools provided in the online form. You may choose to register as a volunteer at multiple schools in the District.
