State Testing

State law requires students in 3rd-8th grades to participate in standardized testing every school year. All students in 3rd-8th grades take standardized tests in math and English Language Arts. Students in 5th and 8th grades take an additional science tests. State testing typically begins after Spring Break at FGCS. Testing schedules vary and tests are not timed but tests expire 20 calendar days after they are begun. Students typically work on tests 45-60 minutes/day 3-4 days/week over the course of  several weeks. 

Under state law, parents have the right to opt students out of state testing. However, there are different rules regarding parents' opt-out rights depending on the test. For English Language Arts and Mathematics tests, parents need only submit the form linked below.  For Science testing, parents may opt out only for reasons of religion or diability. An opt-out request must be made using the forms linked below. Parents may opt students out of testing at any time, but, ideally, by the first Monday after Spring Break.
